A news item is a piece of text that provides information about current happenings/incidents. These daily events are deemed newsworthy or important.

The purpose of someone writing a message is to inform the reader, viewer, or listener, to convey interesting, newsworthy news in an interesting way.

Characteristics

Characteristics of the message body :

1. Focus on the incident

2. Has headings that provide brief information

3. Use helpful verbs to tell something (happened, narrated, said, notified, quoted, reported, etc.).

4. There are indirect and direct sentences with quotation marks ("...")

5. This text provides details of the location, time and event taking place.

6. One of the news texts that can use the present simple to describe facts and the past simple to describe past events.

  How to make mac and cheese Elbow macaroni: It’s my favorite for this recipe, but any other bite-sized pasta will work. Butter: salted or unsalted will work–just adjust the amount of salt you add, depending on the butter. Flour Salt Ground black pepper Milk Half and half Shredded Cheddar cheese: the higher quality aged-cheddar, the better! Preheat the oven.  Preheat to 325 degrees and lightly grease a square baking dish. Cook the macaroni.  Slightly undercook your noodles (about 1 minute under al-dente). Drain and set aside.
